Going Digital at the Bookstore

Elgin

Written by Elgin

Recently, I was at a Barnes and Nobles and while there, I saw… him! There are some people who “cannot” be “caricatured” they MUST be “CARTOONED!!!”

As soon as I spotted him, he had one of those faces , bodies, and clothing that BEGGED to be made into a cartoon character , so I did. Barnes and Nobles for those who don’t know has these Starbucks Coffee Cafes within the store and they allow patrons to sit down with books from the shelves and read them, which is a great thing and leads to sales.

I did so many meetings at Barnes and Nobles that I began to notice the “regulars” who would come in at a certain time and did this. I imagined this dude to be one of the regulars because he just seemed TOOOOOOO comfortable!

Now he’s TOOOONED!

Known as The Subway Surfer by many "insiders" in the caricature world, Elgin has built a reputation with both his traditional artwork, as well as his digital. Elgin Bolling has been drawing professionally since the age of eight years old when he illustrated the cover of a book, Mother, These Are My Friends, for author Mary Anne Gross. Since then he has studied fine arts at Hunter College in New York City, Pratt Institute, and The Brooklyn Museum Art School. He's got an even longer list of exciting accomplishments, which he's going to be sharing with everyone. So keep stopping back to hear some of his stories, see his new digital artwork, and get to know the Subway Surfer!
